Church of Corinth Part 2

Do not be Deceived that you can BUILD ANYHOW:

v12-13 Every work will be tested by FIRE, and on that day it will be known the materials which were used to build. Whether gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay or straw.

v14 “If the work survives, that builder will receive a REWARD.”

v15 “But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great LOSS. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames.”

v16-18 Believers individually and collectively are God’s temple where the Holy Spirit dwells. Anyone who destroys the church (God’s temple) by false doctrine, God will destroy them for God’s temple is SACRED.

v18 – 20 Deception of the worlds wisdom which is worthless before God.

– You have to disown the wisdom of this world to become TRULY wise.

“For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scriptures say, “He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness.” 1 Corinthians 3:19 NLT

***No more boasting about world leaders***

v21 “So then, no more boasting about human leaders! ”

** What matters is unity and harmony through Christ who joins everything to God**

NATURE OF TRUE APOSTLESHIP

Chapter 4:

v1 Paul and Apollos are just Christ mere servants put in charge to explain God’s mysteries.

v2 Now, a person who is put in charge as a manager must be faithful.

1 Corinthians 4:2 NLT

v20 Paul says that he wants to find out how much power these arrogant people will have when he stands face-to-face with them. He’s not worried about their tough talk, but with what power they will demonstrate it.

For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God’s power.

1 Corinthians 4:20 NLT

Warning against being divided because of leaders (who’s better):

“So don’t make judgments about anyone ahead of time—before the Lord returns. For he will bring our darkest secrets to light and will reveal our private motives. Then God will give to each one whatever praise is due.”

1 Corinthians 4:5 NLT

v7-8 Warning ⚠️ against going to beyond what is written & being proud of one leader at the expense of another.

CHAPTER 5: Immorality Rebuked

v1 Sexual immorality that even pagans don’t tolerate – a man was sleeping with his step mother.

v2 Instead of condemning this act, they were proud, when they ought to feel bad enough to chase away anyone who acts like this.

v3-5 Paul says the church should call a meeting over this matter, and this man be handed over to Satan for the destruction of his sinful nature, and salvation of his spirit when Jesus comes.

v6-8 They should not be proud about this issue which is compared to a YEAST which can spread through the whole 🥪 batch of dough (body).

– They were admonished to get rid of the OLD YEAST and be like FRESH bread without yeast

– They should not celebrate the passover feast by sinful and evil acts which is like serving bread made with yeast.

v9-13 : Do not associate with anyone claiming to be a believer but is involved in sexual sin, greed, cheats people, worships idols, is abusive, drunkard – “Don’t even eat with such people.” ( Those in the church but are sinning)……………as the Scriptures say, “You must remove the evil person from among you.”

For the unbelievers in such acts, God will judge them, for believers are in the world and such people are there.

Chapter 6: Lawsuits Discouraged

v1-8 Believers will judge the world, even angels, and ordinary/trivial disputes or complains against each other are not to be decided by secular court ; but by other believers.

– There should be wise enough people to resolve such instead of rushing to secular courts.

– Lawsuits is a loss for all

To those who cheat and do wrong to their fellow believers:

v9 “Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men”

v10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God”.

v11 Before coming to Christ, some believers were like that but now are washed, sanctified and justified in Jesus name and by God’s Spirit.

Honouring God with our bodies:

They were saying:

v12 “We can do ANYTHING we want to.” But I tell you not everything is good for us. So I refuse to let anything have power over me. ” CEV

They were also saying:

v13 “Food is meant for our bodies, and our bodies are meant for food.” But I tell you that God will destroy them both. We are not supposed to do indecent things with our bodies. We are to use them for the Lord who is IN CHARGE of our bodies. CEV

v14 God cares for our bodies and will raise us from deat

h by the same power he used when he raised our Lord to life.
