He sees and cares for the “invisible” Part 1

Hagar was a slave from Egypt in the home of Abraham, and she was cast from his home into the desert by her mistress Sarah, when she became pregnant with Abraham’s child.

However, her pregnancy was not of her will, and God intervened. He sent an angel to comfort Hagar and to promise her that God would care for her and her children.

Hagar makes a statement that is monumental, particularly given the historical context.

Genesis 16:13 – She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.”

As a slave, she had not “value” in the society – she was invisible! Desperate and tired near a spring in the desert, she identified one of the most important traits of God – “You are a God who sees.”

God sees the “invisible” people in the society or who are treated as such. They are ignored or marginalized. Their needs and feelings are almost never considered in “the greater good of society.”

These may include the homeless, addicts, certain tribes or races, and even the terminally ill and aging etc.

To the world you may be “invisible”, but before God you are not hidden/forgotten. He sees and care for you.
