After war, turmoil, uncertainties, weeping, mourning, crying, confusion people need rest & peace.
2 Samuel 7:1 – After the king was settled in his palace and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies around him, 2 he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent.” 3 Nathan replied to the king, “Whatever you have in mind, go ahead and do it, for the Lord is with you.”
2 Chronicles 20:29-30:….. And the Kingdom of Jehoshaphat was at PEACE for his God had given him REST on EVERYSIDE.
2 Chronicles 20:1 – Three kings came to fight against king Jehoshaphat – Moabites, Ammonites and Meunites. v3 Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire from God what to do; proclaimed a fast, and all the people in Judah sought the LORD (God of the covenant).
Jehoshaphat’s prayer: v6-12:
a. He reminded God of His promise – That in times of calamity (sword of judgement, plague/famine, when they cry to God in distress, He had promised to hear and save them.
b. He confessed they had no power to face the enemies, and they did not know what to do, but their eyes were on Him (Adonai).
2020 can be likened to a year of war:
The mind has been the battle field dealing with many uncertainties following the Covid plague.
Like Jehoshaphat we can remind God of his promises concerning our lives in times of calamities – healing, joy, growth, favour etc. He has promised to hear and save us.
Like Jehoshaphat we can confess we have no power to deal with all the issues we are facing, we even don’t know what to do, BUT our eyes are upon the LORD (God of the covenant).
The one who gave Jehoshaphat REST and PEACE from every side can do the same to us as we enter 2021. We just need to take our position…. v15 for the battle is not ours but God’s.
