Focus on Worship not your enemy

2 Chronicles 20:1 – Moabites, Ammonites and Meunites were waging war against King Jehoshaphat of Judah. 3 Kings against 1!

v3 – Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire from God, proclaimed a fast and all the people in Judah sought the LORD through a fast (In calamities God is our refuge).

v6-12: Jehoshaphat’s prayer:

  1. Reminded God of His promise in v9: In times of calamity (sword of judgement or famine), when they cry to God in distress, He has promised to hear and save them.
  2. Confessed they had no power to face the enemy; they didn’t know what to do, but their eyes were on Him.

v15: Then Jahaziel, a descendant of Asaph in the Spirit proclaimed:

Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.”

v17: You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions, stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you, (our battles are his battles).

v18:  They all fell face down in worship before the LORD.

v19: The Musicians – Kohathites and Korahites stood up and praised the LORD, the God of Israel, with very LOUD VOICE (The greater the threat, the greater the praise).

v20: They set out to face the enemy, v21 with singers leading the army, as they praised the LORD for the splendour of His holiness.

The song of Asaph: “Give thanks to the LORD, for His love endures forever”

v22: When they were singing and praising, confusion fell into the enemies’ camp; and they started to slaughter each other. (The enemy could not understand how they were praising instead of quaking in fear).

v23: The plunder was too much to carry – equipment, clothing, articles of value, which took 3 days to collect.

v24: On day 4 they praised the LORD in the VALLEY (Lowest Point) of Berakah – Valley of Praise!

v27: They returned joyfully to Jerusalem, for the LORD had given them cause to rejoice over their enemies – with harps, lyres and trumpets.

v30: God gave King Jehoshaphat PEACE and REST on every side.
