Who is the Holy Spirit?

1. He is a person, has feelings, can become sad or angry and some insult and blaspheme against him.

2. He has intentions, shows wilfulness and discretion, loves, communicates, testifies, teaches and prays.

10 Roles of the Holy Spirit

1. A helper who teaches (*parakleto * wise counsel*) and reminds us all that Jesus said – John 14:26.

( v5 – An advocate who helps and is with us forever).

2. Convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgement – John 16:7-8.

(v7 – It is for your benefit that I go).

3. The Holy Spirit dwells in believers and fills them. Is God’s presence in a believer’s life.

• 1 Corinthians 3:16 – We are God’s temple and God’s spirit dwells in us *Le him fill you*
• Romans 8:11 – The spirit that raised Jesus now dwells in us to quicken us.

4. The Holy Spirit is a source of revelation, wisdom and power.

• 1 Corinthians 2:10-11 – He searches the deep things of God and reveals to us.
• Acts 1:8, Acts 2:4 – H gives us power to witness
• Ephesians 1:17-20 – Spirit of wisdom and power. He helps us to know Jesus better – and that hope and glory awaits us.

5. The Holy Spirit guides to all truth, including knowledge of what is to come and glorifies Jesus – spirit of truth. John 16:13-15.

6. The Holy Spirit gives spiritual gifts to believers – 1 Corinthians 12:7-11.

7. The Holy Spirit is a seal in the lives of believers – Ephesians 1:13, 2 Corinthians 5:5 – A deposit guaranteeing what is to come.

8. The Holy Spirit helps Christians in weakness and intercedes for them in accordance with God’s will – Romans 8:26-27.

9. The Holy Spirit makes believers new and gives them eternal life – Romans 8:10-11.

10. Sanctifies and enables believers to bear good fruit in their lives – Galatians 5:16-21, Galatians 5:22-25.

Acts 10:38 – God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with Power – He went about doing good and healing all oppressed by the devil.

Matthew 7:11 – How much more will your father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!

Luke 11:13 – He gives the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.
