Colossians 2:13 – Once we were dead in our sins and in the uncircumcision of our flesh – God made us alive with Christ – he forgave us all our sins.
Ephesians 2:1 – We were dead in transgressions and sins; living in them by following the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air; the spirit at work in those who are disobedient. (Ref Galatians 5:19-21, Acts of the flesh).
v3 – We were gratifying the cravings of the flesh (desires and thoughts); we were deserving wrath).
v4-5 – But through God’s great love, who is rich in mercy, He made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions.
v6 – God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.
2 Corinthians 5:17 – Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.
The New Nature/Man/Wine/Patch
Mark 2:21-22 – A new patch cannot be put on an old garment. It will cause a worse tear in the old garment. v22 New wine cannot be put into old wineskins; it will cause the old wineskin to burst, i.e. Old and New cannot Mix – Law and Grace cannot Mix.
Galatians 4:22 – Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and the other by the free woman.
v23 – Son by the slave woman was according to the flesh; son by the free woman was born as a result of divine promise.
v24 – These two women represent two covenants – one from Mt. Sinai which bears children who are to be slaves (Hagar), and the covenant of Jerusalem that is above (Sarah), v28 who bears (Isaac) – children of the promise.
v29 – The son born according to the flesh persecuted the son born by the power of the spirit (Ishmael vs Isaac). It is same even now.
v30 – “Get rid of the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman’s (earthly) son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman’s son (spiritual).
Galatians 5:17 – The flesh desires what is contrary to the spirit, and the spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other. (v16: Walk by the spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. v24 – Crucify the flesh with its passions and desires).
Colossians 3:5 – Put to death therefore whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed which is idolatry, v8: Anger, malice, slander and filthy language.
1 Peter 2:11 -……abstain from sinful desires which wage war against your soul.
Adam(Flesh/Old) vs Jesus (Spirit/New)
1 Corinthians 15:21-22 – Death came through a man (Adam); resurrection of the dead comes through a man (Jesus). v22 – In Adam all die, in Christ all are made alive.
Romans 5:19 – Trough one man’s disobedience, many were made sinners; through the obedience of the one man, the man will be made righteous.
First Born vs Second Born Pattern:
Genesis 25:23 – Esau vs Jacob: One stronger, the older will serve the younger, Romans 9:13 – Jacob I loved, Esau I hated.
Genesis 38:29 – The younger broke out first
Genesis 48:13 – Ephraim and Manasseh, v19 Younger will become greater v20 Ephraim put ahead of Manasseh.
