What happened my bride?
Jeremiah 2:2 I remember the devotion of your youth, how as a bride you loved me and followed me throughout the wilderness.
v3 You were holy to the LORD
v5 What fault did your ancestors find in me, that they strayed so far from me? They followed worthless idols and became worthless themselves.
v11 Has a nation ever changed its god’s? (Yet they are not gods at all). But my people have exchanged their glorious God for worthless idols.
v12 Be appalled at this, you heavens and shudder with great horror.
v13***My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.
Result: v14-17: Slavery, plunder, waste land, burned and deserted towns, v17 for forsaking the LORD.
v18 Why go to Egypt to drink water from the Nile?
Why go to Assyria to drink water from the Euphrates?
v32 Does a young woman forget her jewellery, a bride her wedding ornaments? Yet my people have forgotten me, days without number.
v19 Your wickedness will punish you; your backsliding will rebuke you.
Matthew 25:1-13 – The issue was not about being virgins, for all of them were. The issue was that they FORGOT to carry extra oil. Five were careless and five were far sighted.
v13 Be alert (prepared and ready), for you do not know the hour when the son of man cometh.
The ready virgins were separated from the non-ready ones.
***In my biblical passages, oil is an emblem of the Holy Spirit. E.g. Zechariah 4:1-7. Without oil, the wedding party was not ready for the bridegroom. Without the Holy Spirit, no one is ready for the return of Jesus.
