The temple is not complete without the wall

Zerubbabel built the temple, then Ezra brought worship reforms, while Nehemiah built the broken wall of Jerusalem’s temple.

Nehemiah means the Lord comforts.

Nehemiah 1:3 – Back home there was great trouble [There was no protection for the wall had been broken], and disgrace [shame for Gates had been burnt with fire].

***The work of a wall is to protect, and gates were the control points and justice was served there too. ***

v4 Nehemiah sat down [stop and think], wept [sincere feeling], mourned, fasted and prayed.

***He reflected, how can I live in luxury and there is shame back home?

v6b – He confessed the sins of the nation, himself and his family.

Nehemiah 2:2 He had sadness of the heart, and in v11 there was a burden in his heart to rebuild the broken wall.

v10 Sanballat and Tobiah heard about Nehemiah’s journey to Jerusalem to promote the Israelites welfare and were greatly disturbed.

Nehemiah 4 & 6 Records the great opposition to the work.

***God eventually gave Nehemiah victory in rebuilding the wall for the temple is never complete without a wall ***

***God is the great rebuilder and reformer of broken down lives, people in ruins and shambles through sin ***
