Luke 17:32* *Remember Lot’s wife* .
This is a solemn warning.
Jesus warns us against looking back.
Lot’s wife died after looking back.
She died in unbelief.
She was disobedient to God’s Word.
She heard the message of doom.
She heard, but did not really believe.
Lot’s wife looked back.
She took her eyes off the path of the Lord.
She looked back to the world instead of forward to God’s plan for her life.
The bible says,” *But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt* .”(Gen 19:26)
She violated the Lord’s command.
She longed for Sodom and Gomorrah.
Lot’s wife a righteous woman longed for such sinful place.
Remember Lot’s wife.
“….. *the friendship of the world is enmity with God* ? *whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God* .”(James 4:4)
She turned back to the world.
We are not to yearn for worldly things;materialism, immorality, culture etc.
” *For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose* *his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?* (Matt 16:26)
Lot’s wife yearned for her former life of Sodom.
Her heart truly belonged to Sodom.
Do you look back to things that God has commanded us to forsake?
Don’t look back, fix your eyes on Jesus.
Everyone is susceptible to backward pull.
It’s an inherent tendency towards looking back.
Looking back is backsliding.
Looking back has consequences.
Say no to former life.
Say no to Sodom.
To forsake sin is to leave it without any thought of returning to it.
“…. *No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God* .”Say the Lord.(Lk 9:62)
Don’t look back or else you’ll mess up.
No farmer will keep any ploughman who keeps looking back and produces a winky field.
The kingdom of God is all about the harvest.
Our Christian Life is always a walk towards Jesus, towards a greater knowledge of Him and a stronger awareness of His presence.
We have before us the glory of Christ Himself, and the certainty that every furrow we plough is perfect in Him to bear abundant harvest for the kingdom of God.
“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, *forgetting those things which are behind* , *and reaching forth unto those things which are before* , “(Phi 3:13)
Forget things of the past and look forward towards perfection in Christ.
It’s high time for us to wake out of sleep.
Our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.
Jesus is coming again.
He’s only going to appear to those who are looking forward.
Let’s examine ourselves.
Let’s makes up our mind. Let’s look and move forward in God towards the Calvary.
” *Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith* …”(Heb 12:2)
