The Faith of the Roman Centurion
But speak the word only, and my servant will be healed (Matthew 8:5-13 )
5 Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, 6 saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented.”
7 And Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.”
Jesus was willing to go with the man in order to heal his servant. We would all be overjoyed to have Jesus go with us. But to this centurion, a personal visit by Jesus was not necessary. He answered Jesus and said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
10 When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!
Jesus had just told him that he would accompany him into his house in order to heal the servant; but the man said to Jesus he did not have to do that . He knew what authority and command was, since he was also a man under authority and command.
He realized that all that which was necessary was for Jesus to SPEAK THE WORD, and that authority of the word would heal his servant. Jesus was perplexed by the centurion’s faith.
At this Jesus said to him, v13, “Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you.” And his servant was healed that same hour.
The centurion’s servant was healed through THE SPOKEN WORD of Jesus. We can as well receive our healing, salvation freedom, restoration and anointing if we can just believe the spoken word of God concerning our lives, families, business and ministry.
