Stand Up

Satan is described as a roaring lion stalking us (1 Peter 5:8) .

He is a BULLY (a person who habitually seeks to harm or intimidate those whom they perceive as vulnerable).

Should we faint in fear of his bullying behaviour?

Not t all. James 4:5 tells us, “Resist the devil and he will flee” According to Scripture it is Satan who should flee, the father of all bullies.

Jesus told Peter: And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. (Matthew 16:19).

Think of it: Jesus is not warning us of Satan’s attacks (Gates don’t attack, but they lock people out/in), rather he is calling us to stand up to the king of bullies and we INVADE HIS KINGDOM. We take the light of God to the enemies territory, and flee those who are locked inside.

The gates of hell are meant to keep God’s kingdom out, and Jesus is saying that we stand up against evil and bring God’s light and love to the darkness of this world, and EVEN THE GATES OF HELL WILL NOT BE ABLE TO HOLD US BACK!

We encounter bullies everywhere, and Paul encouraged Timothy to stand up and firm to bullies in the Church – Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young (1 Timothy 4:12). God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, love and self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:7)

Don’t let them – BULLIES – intimidate you. They thrive because we let them intimidate us, look down on us and shame us.

Ch. Stephen
